Bereavement Experience sought for TV Series

 24th May 2004

Would you like to have some input into a series of TV programmes featuring bereavement?

Information about the programme

We have heard about this series through an email sent from Cheryl Snelling of Maverick TV sent to ACT (Association for Children with Life-threatening or Terminal Conditions and their Families) which is reproduced below:

After further development of our bereavement project, our research showed clearly that it is a subject with many areas to learn about. We are currently in talks with the BBC about a series featuring bereavement on many different levels. In the series we will have 4 individual programmes looking at the death of a child, a young person (18-24), a parent, and a grandparent - and how it affects people around them. The programme will show the support on offer and the different stages of grieving.

To make this project we will need to follow case studies a few months prior to death and for a year afterwards. This length of time will hopefully allow us to give the families and individuals involved enough space throughout the year away from the cameras but still monitoring their bereavement process at different intervals. The reason for filming before is so that we can show the person who is being talked about and illustrating the things they miss about them.

I really do appreciate the guidance and advice you have given up to now and I wondered if you could offer any further advice on how to approach case studies. I understand that this is such a sensitive subject but the aim is to produce an educational series that will create greater awareness of bereavement. I am also looking to talk to people who have lost a sibling, child, parent, grandparent to present as research. If you know anyone who would be happy to spare some time to talk to me, please let me know.

Best wishes and many thanks once again,

Cheryl Snelling
