With support from the French Muscular Dystrophy Association and the involvement of clinicians in the search for new treatments, Trophos is developing olesoxime (TRO19622) for treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

A phase 2 clinical trial is now open for recruitment of patients in several European Countries, including the UK, with the objective to assess efficacy and the safety of olesoxime in patients with SMA Type 2 and Type 3. This trial concerns non-ambulant patients from 3 to 25 years and other inclusion and exclusion criteria apply. All three sites in the UK (Birmingham, London and Newcastle) are now open and recruitment has started. Birmingham and London are recruiting children only (3 to 18 years old) while Newcastle is recruiting children and adults (3 to 25 years old). Newcastle has more spaces left than Birmingham and London.

With the TROPHOS clinical trials on the horizon, there are several good reasons for patients wishing to be considered for inclusion in trials to be registered with the UK SMA Patient Registry.

A new initiative designed to speed up the process of bringing treatments to patients with neuromuscular diseases like Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) has been formally launched in Paris.
