Does anyone have experience of the Emerson CoughAssist machine? Is it effective?

My wife has MS and a very weak cough. She keeps aspirating saliva, food etc and then gets aspiration pneumonia several timea a year and other repiratory problems. Any user experiences would be invaluable.

Hello everyone! I am a 52yr old female. I have severe arthritis also severe osteoporosis. Lately,I have experience terrible leg cramps and one constricture. I looked like a flamingo standing on one leg,and was unable to straighten my leg for several hours. This was very frightening and painful at the time. My lab work shows everything "normal". Is there special testing for SMA4? I will appreciate any help whatsoever. Sue

I have Adult SMA. The condition first appeared in June 2001 shortly before my 60th birthday, when I developed a slight limp in my left leg (though maybe earlier, see cramp below). The doctor thought it might be due to a trapped nerve in my back and referred me to a consultant neurosurgeon. Following various scans and tests, with the inevitable frustrating NHS delays; I was finally diagnosed with the condition in August last year.
I get the usual cramp in the legs, feet, and abdomen and now hands. I had this in my left leg and foot back in 1999 as well as severe coldness but following tests no specific cause was found, so that could have been the start of the SMA. A friend recommended a product called "Crampex", available from the local pharmacy, and that helps a lot. I showed them to my doctor, who told me they were a combination of vitamin B3 and calcium. They're apparently not available on the NHS, as they are classed as a food supplement, but nevertheless, I find them worth taking.
Is the severe coldness in the limbs a common problem?
I also saw an advert a short while ago for muscle toning equipment (I think it was slendertone, or something similar) and that got me thinking and exploring the Internet. The equipment is called an Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS) and is apparently used in sports medicine to aid recovery from disuse atrophy and other muscular problems. I think there are also some trials going on to aid limb movement in stroke recovery. The manufacturers adverts say they benefit all manner of conditions, but they would wouldn't they. Has anyone tried any of this type of equipment? If so has there been any beneficial effect?

Hi everybody -- Does anybody know how effective mechanical chest physiotherapy machines are? I've never seen one, but I hear there is one well-known devise called (phonetic) "Vibromat". I've been using a electrically powered vibrator for some time now. It was I guess originally made for the slimming salons. The benefit of such a method is that it is available round the clock, every day and once purchased doesn't need outlay again. The effectiveness is a question, though. I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! Bernie.
