We are off to Florida this summer! Unfortunately we need a different battery charger as the UK one cannot be used. The wheelchair is an invacare spectra. the manufacturers were unhelpful and said we could buy one for £200 or "just hire one in Florida" but didnt know of a contact. Can anyone help/have a charger to loan. Thanks

my son has type II, he is due to start school in september and will just be 4. i have chosen the local school, they really seemed to want my son, the trouble is it needs to be adapted. where do i stand if i want my son to go there. Education are saying there may not be enough funding for adaptations and he might have to go to another local school, but this is only an infants or there is another fully adapted school, but it is 10 miles away and i think this will be too much travelling for him. Can anyone advise me?

Wondered if anyone had advice - I am going to meet the vice principal of a local schoold about my son attending. The vice has mentioned that rather than them deciding to take Liam I have to decide if the school is suitable.

Dont the schools have to make their schools accessible? I know they wont have a disabled loo so shouldnt they source funding to get one? Who can I talk to about this, I am keen for Liam to join this school as the children my son socialises will be attending this school.

Can anyone help me? I'm doing a project to design and develop a computer game where the main character is in a wheelchair. I want to portray a positiveimage of disability as well as highlighting the importance of attiudes and access. My main character, Sam Bishop, when faced with his disability finds new ways of doing things and taking control of his own life. In addition the game, i hope will challenge the stereotypical image of disability showing the lack of support from society. I am disabled and most of my problems are to do with the way life is organized. In my house, which is adapted to meet my need i am not really that disabled, but it is outside (society) where i really have problems. Sam wants to change and have control over his outside world. I will be creating a website, which will also show aspects of disability awareness, particularly the social nature of disability, promoting the social model approach to disability, showing how society can make positive changes to allow disabled people to participate on a eqial level by removing barriers. It will also include a disability/computer game fourm with exchanges of ideas. I am looking for website copy on the subjects associated with computer games, disability and how the media portray disability. Anyone with ideas to place on my website please put them on this forum. Thank You.

My nephew is type 2; he is 12 and he lives in Belgrade, Serbia. He never had a wheelchair.
I expect him to come here (Birmingham)to visit some time in early spring. I would like to get him a power wheelchair. Could you please advise how I could find a right wheelchair for him (I have got all his measures, and he's only 20 kg).
I got an idea that they are quite expensive - so, is it possible to get a used one? Any information on this subject very welcome.

Poet
I am a final year physiotherapy student and I am conducting a research project on SMA. I'm looking for an inspirational poem or piece of writing preferably by a child with SMA for the first page of my project. I have seen a lovely poem by Erin on the FSMA site, but I was wondering if there are any publications of poems about disabled children, or if anybody knows of something suitable. It must be relatively recent as I will have to get permission from the author to include it in the project. Thank you!!!
