We are in the process of looking at suitable cars to wheel the motorised wheelchair onto (via a ramp) and secure. Can anyone recommend a car (make/model)?

Also, is it best to change the car every 5 years with Motorbility or has anyone brought their own car and made the adjustments and kept the car?

I would appreciate any comments or ideas.

i`m doing research for my disability studies - i want to focus on this issue for longer. and i`d really love to get your biographies - of course sites and articles u`ve wrote are fine too. brad sent me his article for example. i would like you to write what you think is important - both in lives before and with sma. what are u doing and so on, simply your view of the world, life and reality.

Does anyone have any experience of infra red taps in their bathroom? We are trying to fit out a new bathroom for our daughter and want her to be able to do as much as possible herself. The problem with infrared taps is they are not run of the mill so generally have to be ordered and I wondered if anyone has a specific tap they could recommend? Some seem to have very short spouts which doesn't look good if you don't have much reach in your arms and most of them are hideously expensive! Any ideas or info very welcome thanks!

Has anyone had something fitted to their front door which automatically opens / closes it, but maintains security? My son, who is almost 15 is frustrated that he can't leave or come home with out someone having to open the door whilst all his mates have keys to their homes.

My fiance (type II/III) and I have decided to have our honeymoon in Cornwall. Is there anyone else that lives in Cornwall or has taken a holiday there and has advice on care agencies, equipment hire (hoist) and accessible restaurants? We will be staying in Marazion but travelling to St. Austell and other towns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In the last 2 1/2 years since our little girls SMA2 diagnosis, we knew it was going to be a huge life change but I secretly thought that by now - she has just started fulltime mainstream school - life would be settling down. However, we just consantly feel at her beck and call and her constant cries for 'MUM' either becasue she's dropped something, has slipped or needs the loo, are wearing me down. She also gets so cross and frustrated and our punishments and treat withdrawing techniques have no affect.

My husband and I also worry about the affect on our 7 year old daughter who must surely bear the brunt of our lack of patience. We always seem at the end of our tether, so even when Holly asks a simple thing, we can be very short with her.

These years in your children's lives are meant to be the ones to treasure but we just feel so guilty that we don't seem to be able to create a family life that is worth treasuring or remembering.

Does anyone know what we mean? Can anyone offer any advice on how they got through this? Louise

Hi everyone, my daughter is 6 years old and has SMA III. She is in mainstream school and is due to go on a school trip soon. School have said that it is too expensive to get a coach that is set up for her to use a wheelchair. They are proposing to send her down on a minibus with one other pupil. My problem is should they be using a coach that is set up for her regardless of cost? or is there somewhere that can help with the additional cost? I dont want to be the one to tell her that she can't go on the coach with the rest of the children because she needs her wheelchair. Thanks for reading x
