Our daughter is type 3 and we recently secured 25 hours support. My wife and I are both teachers and therefore know how the system works, but still we had to fight the Education Authority. The school will be supportive as additional support will be invaluable to them.

Remember it is your entitlement so don't be put off.
Key points to include:
1. Health and Safety (a major concern and one which the authority will take seriously.
2. Discrimination- support is essential and lack of provision would deny your child opportunities for access and full inclusion and thus be discriminatory.
3. Social issues. Inclusion at break and lunchtimes requires support, This is a big one especially with the "Every Child Matters " agenda.
Hope this is useful. I would be happy to send you copies of letters we sent to the Education Officers. Always put things in writing too, then you cannot be mis-quoted and should always receive a reply. Feel free to e-mail us at jandhmyers@hotmail.co.uk
