CVS or PGD?? |
| We lost our beautiful daughter to SMA Type 1 on the 4th July 2007 and are now faced with the decision of which route to follow for future pregnancies. Both routes seem so harsh and to be truthful the thought of waiting for the CVS test and then the test itself scares me so much, but on the other hand the success rate of PGD seems so low. |

Re: CVS or PGD?? |
Hi Mike and Becky. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. Life isn't fair and with SMA, it doesn't get any easier when we have to make these decisions for future pregnancies. I wouldn't want to try to make a decision for you, every situation is different. My best advice is to get all the facts you can. Talk to your genetics councellor, visit Guys hospital, talk to the JTSMA and members of the contact volunteer network. Waiting for CVS results is incredibly hard (we've had bad and, thankfully, two good experience of this) and experiences of the test itself vary (I hope it's fair to say that any discomfort of the test is forgotten in comparison to the wait for the result). I wish you the best of luck for whatever route you decide upon. |

Re: CVS or PGD?? |
hi Mike and Becky Im so sorry to hear about your dear daughter. It is such a difficult choice to make, whether to choose pgd or cvs. I cannot tell you what to do,but i can tell you of my experiences. I have had pgd 3 times, and each time things have gone really well. Until the implanting stage, where i have failed to get pregnant each time. It took about 14 months to do 3 cycles, and i have been left feeling like i've waisted that time where i could have been trying naturally. On the other hand a friend of mine fell pregnant via IVF on the first go, so i think a lot of it is down to luck. Because i tried pgd 3 times, and because of my age (36), and also the longing i have to have another child,i feel that the choice has been made for me, and that is to have cvs. Hopefully this will be lucky for me. Pgd is very stressfull but obviously if it works is well worth it. Hope this information helps you, and i wish you the very best of luck. You can e-mail me direct if you want more info. good luck. angela |

CVS or PGD?? |
| We opted not through choice for a natural preganancy and had CVS results a few weeks ago and we are fine to continue with the pregnancy. Although he will be a carrier which we will let him know in due course. Just can't beleive how releived we both are but waiting for the test results to be returned we were both like cats on a hot tin roof |
