Current Question Tolerex
My 25yr old son Darren has SMA type 111, has low weight and is skinny. We are looking into using Tolerex or UK equivalent for muscle and weight gain.

Hi,I am 34 and have Type III. How old is your son? I am 6'1 and 136#. I have been very thin all my life. I just want to say that weight gain can be a bad thing, since we don't gain muscle it can cause trouble. I have lots of trouble when I gain. I tryed everything to gain weight before I got a DX 4 years ago. Just something to think about.

My 9yr old daughter Aimee has type 3 & is very thin, to the extent that she looks anorexic! However she eats like there's no tomorrow...loves roast beef dinners especially! I figure that maybe because of her condition, she has to use far more calories than your average person because of the extra effort she has to put into everyday things. I know that any excess weight can be problematic, causing extra strain on the muscles, so if Darren's diet is good,, well maybe I wouldn't let it worry you too much...easier said than done though I know.

The most important thing is to make sure he eats several times per day. with less fat for the body to refuel its self it attacks out muscle. I try to eat something every 4 hours other than sleep time.
