Re: Re: Swimming Aids |
Hello I have just read your post about the swimming aids and i was wondering if you found anything? My son is nearly 6 with sma type 2 and i would really like to get him something so we don't have to hold him up all the time in the pool which we have been doing. Thanks Susan |

Re: Swimming Aids |
Hi my name is Monica and I have a son with type II SMA. He is 18yrs old and about to go to Uni. When he was younger I used a swim aid which I purchased from a company called Polyotter - I don't know if they are still trading as it is quite a long time since my purchase. The aid consisted of a stripped swimsuitwith short legs which had a series of floats around the middle which you could remove partly when needed. This workled very well for my son and he used to float around independently for long periods. I did advertise in the SMA newsletter for someone to take the swimsuit off my hands but I had no replies. I will have a search around and see if we still have the suit and if we have you are welcome to have it.
best wishes Monica. |

Re: Swimming Aids |
| We used the Schwimmi neck collar for Helena (type 1) when she was 3. I think the JT should have details of where this is available - I think it was either ROMPA or THF. It is a simple low cost inflatable collar, which when worn was able to support the body weight of a 14 kg and long child on the surface of the water, and allows free hand and leg movement. We used it all the time for the bath and swimming. Lilias |
