New, and I am wondering if [I have SMA] |
I have all the symptoms of this illness, yet my doctors say I have fibromyalgia. I actaully can see muscle deterioration. A doctor in AZ 2 yrs. ago saw it on one hand, I came home to my doctor and they can't understand what I am telling them.
How can I get them to look at this and get their attention. It is also apparent in one leg, and one arm. I can see it myself.
I have the tingling and everything to go with it, and I have spinal problems shown on x-rays from chiropractor, as well as my 2 bottom vertebrea were fused when I was born that way. |

hello
As you may be aware there are a large number of conditions that can have very similar symptoms and it's only by Doctors doing specific tests that they can distinguish one from another. It may well be that you do have Fibromyalgia or you could have that and something else as well but it would be unusual for someone with SMA to be born with vertebrea fused together.
If you are not happy with what the doctors are telling you you need to go back to them and ask for a second opinion if necessary.
It's very easy to read about a lot of different conditions and think we have the symptoms which is why it's important to get an accurate diagnosis. |

Hi
Spinal Muscular Atrophy does not actually mean spinal problems - its not a good name really. I have had a complete MRI scan of my spine, X rays and a lumbar puncture and nothing untoward was found - 'fit as a fiddle' one might say. But I still can barely walk... Peter Hartley |
