Hi there every one.
We had a little girl in 2003 who was diagnosed with SMA type 2/3. She is doing really well at the moment with just starting school and loving every minute of it. We have just found out that we are now expecting another baby after trying for a long time.
We was just wondering if anyone has had the CVS test and if so how did you find it has I am not a big lover of needles and is finding it really hard at the minute to want to have it done but the family is saying that its best to have it done.

Hi all i had a CVS on tuesday my genetic counsiller has just phoned and said the results will be in a 4pm today, I am really nervous and wondered why it has only taken 2/3 days to come back does this quickness reflect your result i just cant stop thinking about it. Thankyou for your support

| we are now 12 weeks pregnant and had our cvs last thurseday the test went fine with no problems and our results are due in this friday.our youngest son was born last june with sma type1 and sadly died when he was 10 days old.my husband and myself had always said that if the test was to come back postive for sma that we would end the pregnancy but now that the date for the results is getting nearer im starting to have seconds thoughts on our descion and dont feel like i can tell my husband as he agrees strongly with the rest of the family as it was quite hard for our other three children to understand.i feel like im bonding with my baby which i tryed so hard not to do but as any pregnant mother no thats impossiable.i was just wondering what is the right decision. |

Hi I have just found out that i am 6 weeks pregnant i have a healthy 3 year old boy and a 17 month old girl who has sma, i was wondering how everybody copes up to and including the cvs testing, I am really depressed with it the worry is unbearable,

| Sadly we had to undergo our fourth termination in July of this year as our baby was diagnosed with SMARD from a CVS test. I am finding it difficult to accept another bad result. We lost our daughter Jessica to SMARD in July 2000. We are fortunate to have a healthy son Thomas who was born in January 2002. Unfortunately since 2004 four pregnancies have all ended in terminations as we were advised that the babies had inherited both SMARD mutations. This has been heartbreaking each time to give up a baby we wanted so much. I would now like to try again for another baby but terrified that we will get a bad result. I keep trying to tell myself that we shouldn't try again but I fear that I will live the rest of my life feeling sad an empty as we always wanted to be a family of four. Has anyone else gone through a similar experience that would be able to give some advice on how to move forward. |

| early this year we had our fourth baby max in june of this year but he died when he was 10 days old.we didnt now till after he had died that he had sma type1 and we were both carriers we then fell pregnant 6 weeks after he had died but sadly miscarried that baby which also had sma type 1. i dont understand how you can have three perfectly healthy children then have two babys with sma.is there any thing that were doing wrong? |

| We lost our beautiful daughter to SMA Type 1 on the 4th July 2007 and are now faced with the decision of which route to follow for future pregnancies. Both routes seem so harsh and to be truthful the thought of waiting for the CVS test and then the test itself scares me so much, but on the other hand the success rate of PGD seems so low. |

| We lost our beautiful son luke to sma type 1 in Oct 05. We have since had 3 unsucesfull cycles of pgd at guys and are losing hope. We could try naturally but the idea of waiting for a CVS test & result terrifies me. Has anyone had any success with pgd? after how many goes? or can anyone give me some encouraging CVS stories. PLEASE? |

Hi,
I am begining to think about starting my own family and have a sibling with SMA, so have a 50/50 chance of being a carrier. Does anyone know of how I might get tested?
