A vibrant mix of those affected by SMA, carers, parents, volunteers and staff from the JT attended an adventure weekend at the Calvert Trust. The weather was kind to us all and apart from the odd soaking in Lake Bassentwa ite, most people remained surprisingly dry!
The accommodation was comfortable and warm and upon arrival all of the young people and their families settled in well. On the first night we all had a go at a quiz and generally did quite badly, however congratulations to the winning team (Tilly Griffiths)
It was an early start the next morning after a hearty English breakfast and the guys was split into two groups. One group went for a long walk through the gorgeous country side and the other had a good go at canoeing. The facilities at the lakeside were truly amazing! A fixed hoist, adapted canoes and a rather lovely packed lunch! In the evening the group took a dip in the centres state of the art swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna…oh and a bit of a disco too!
Another early start on Sunday to take part in abseiling and rope swinging. Most people drifted home about mid day, very tired but full of adventures to tell their friends/ family! The staff at the Calvert Trust are friendly, attentive and extremely patient. All of the attendee’s stated that they had thoroughly enjoyed the experience and feedback from the parents has also reflected this.
Hope to be back soon!
