Remembering A Precious Child Rose
By Nikki Barker

Nikki wrote this poem some years ago when a new rose was named Precious Child and sold in aid of JTSMA. "I thought the rose and SMA folk shared many attributes."

Nikki now uses voice activated computer software to pursue her interest in creative writing & especially poetry.

Remembering A Precious Child Rose.

In a garden of love,
the "Precious Child" rose,
when nurtured and tended,
develops and grows.

Both sunlight and raindrops,
are needed in part,
to weather the storms,
and strengthen the heart.

Soft petals caress,
like a babe in the womb,
seeking new daylight,
to reach out and bloom.

Salmon pink rose buds,
kissed by the dew,
tell of a loving,
known just to a few.

A fresh, friendly fragrance,
wholesome and pure,
a scent so enticing,
it's hard to ignore.

With some gifts from nature,
the lifeforce is frail,
and is lost in the winds,
of a harsh, senseless gale.

The Winters keep coming,
but Summers come too,
whilst a rose brings a memory,
of being kissed by the dew.
