Going into higher education

Universities and colleges are increasingly aware of the needs of disabled students. They can provide support in a number of ways- and you may be able to get financial help too!

Questions:

Every university or college has a disability advisor or learning support co-ordinator to help get the most out of your time in higher education.

Thought!

Contact or visit the institution before making a decision. You will need to check out that every thing is accessible and just right for you and your specific needs.

Learning your rights

It is unlawful for schools and other education providers to discriminate against disabled ‘learners’.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) introduced a public authority equality duty. The duty is aimed at encouraging public authorities to consider the needs of disabled people as part of their every day activities.

Help and advice is available from the equality and human rights commission
