Over the weekend of 9th - 10th June, 61 brave volunteers chose to abseil down Guys Hospital Tower in London, a terrifying experience as the tower is the tallest venue possible to abseil down in the UK today - a massive 450 ft!
This is the view from the bottom of the tower:

And this is the view from the top:

The first group to bravely go over the edge included Marc and Lisa Adamson, who had organised a team from Nationwide Building Society to take part in memory of their son Daniel.
Others taking part included Doug Morris, one of our trustees, and Simon Clarke, who lost his daughter Grace to Type I SMA in May 2006 - picture below:

Thanks to Purepix photography for the above picture.
In Simon's words:
"The abseil was exhilarating and petrifying at the same time. I didn't realise quite how high 450ft was until I was dangling from a rope backwards, looking down over the London eye, shaking and perspiring all at the same time...
I recommend it to anyone, although I will wait another year before I attempt it again!
I am very grateful to the Jennifer Trust for organising events such as this and know how important they are to bring awareness to the charity and raise much needed funds."
With all the sponsorship pledged for this event, we hope that it will have raised at least £10,000.
For those who feel inspired to take on Guys Hospital Abseil, we are in the process of confirming a date for next year, so register your interest with Allison Pratt, Community Fundraiser today as places are limited! |
