Organised by Roy Twycross

Saturday 5th June 2004 - keep this date clear in your diary for this fantastic event organised by Roy Twycross! The JTSMA are delighted to be the beneficiaries of this event again this year.

What to Expect

On the Road!

For the second year running, this unique event is to be held in Dorset, at the Wyevale Garden Centre in Owermoigne, on the main A352 between Dorchester and Wareham.

The day will open at 10.00am and run through the day giving passenger rides up and down the A352 until 4.00pm. You can expect to see 15-20 Ferraris!

Lots of Ferraris

The organisers ask for a "minimum donation" of £10. This will get people an approximate 10 minute ride out onto the A352 and and beyond.

Special guests for this year's event are Ben Oliver, features editor for Autocar magazine and Mr Jim Knight, local MP.

Latest News for This Year's Event

Roy has just had confirmation (end of May) that Ben Oliver, features editor for Autocar magazine, will be attending the event! The event has also been mentioned in the magazine in the My Motoring Week page written by Editor-in-Chief Steve Cropley.

Local MP, Mr Jim Knight has also confirmed attendance as a special guest at this year's Ride In A Ferrari. He is most likely to visit at some point in the afternoon.

Promition of the event is now gaining pace. Roy reports that he has already had a lot of interest from owners this year - including the owner of another anniversary model, the F50 - another great car which will complement the F40. If the weather is good we may get to see a 275 GTB - a classic 1960s Ferrari.

Roy has also been writing to the local radio and TV stations in the last couple of weeks. Wave 105 FM in Hampshire has included the event on their website and morning DJ, Matt Hopper will also be announcing the event. Hopefully other stations such as Wessex FM (based in Dorchester) will also help.

Last year's sponsors, Leeline Bodyworks are kindly supporting once again, by providing posters to advertise the event. The Wyevale Garden Centre will be distributing leaflets via the tills and leaflet-drops in the car park.

This year, Roy has been trying new ways to promote the event, including posting messages on the message boards of various car magazines' web sites. Posters have also been sent to various Ferrari main dealers and specialists across the south of the country to attract Ferrari enthusiasts to the event! Roy has been contacted by the editor of Classic Cars magazines who have promised to mention the event. Ben Oliver, a writer for Autocar, has offered to get involved (now confirmed), saying that Autocar would like to promote the event and he has offered to bring a Porsche 911 Turbo as a bit of variety! He hopes it won't upset the Ferrari fraternity!!

Roy is looking forward to meeting JTSMA members and families, several of whom have already been in contact with the JTSMA at Elta House to express their interest.

David Hollinghurst, manager of the Wyevale Garden Centre have confirmed that they will be providing the same excellent hospitality as last year. Drivers and volunteers will have use of the "bungalow" on the day with a buffet-style lunch laid on. On the day itself, a table outside will be filled with JTSMA information, leaflets and collection tins for customers to donate.

History of the Event

The Ride in a Ferrari days have steadily raised more and more each year since starting in 1999 when there were 8 Ferrari cars and £180 was raised for the then Muscular Dystrophy Group.

Over the five years that Ride In A Ferrari has now been running, Roy hase raised over £8500 for the benefiting charities. Roy is hoping to see the £10,000 barrier broken this year.
