Conference Speakers

Our speakers this year include:

Dr Richard Finkel of the Children's Hospital Philadelphia is a leading and internationally respected specialist in the field of SMA management and research. Dr Finkel will present his work on the international SMA parent survey which you can read more about here.

Dr Steven Minger a leading Scientist in the field of Stem Cells is back by popular demand this year to give us an update on current developments in stem cell therapy. Last year he gave such a stimulating and interesting talk that we know you'll want to hear from Steven again.

Professor Kay Davis and her team at Oxford University will give us an annual update on the progress of their world leading SMA research.

Dr Anna Mayhew is the newly appointed physiotherapist coordinating the SMArt net project. This is an exciting new project set up by Professor Muntoni and Dr Mansur at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. The project is being part funded by the Jennifer Trust.

Natasha Wood a 30 something writer, performer, ex BBC production manager and free spirit is currently performing in her own autobiographical one woman show 'Rolling With Laughter'. Following it's L.A. run, the show will continue on to London, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and New York. In Spring 2008, the stage production will culminate in a one night fundraising event in London's West End for The Jennifer Trust. Natasha who has SMA type 2, takes time out of her busy schedule to come and share her showbiz experiences with us at conference.

John Gillet is a Trustee of the Calvert Trust and will be running two workshops on Sunday to tell us about their adventure holidays. "As one of the first organisations to consider access to the countryside and challenging activities specifically for disabled people, and now with over 20 years experience, the Calvert Trust has specially designed its latest centre on the edge of Exmoor in Devon to provide fun packed holidays for disabled people, their families and friends. It may be the first time you have tried climbing, sailing, canoeing, swimming, archery or horse riding but with the help and encouragement of our experienced and friendly instructors, you will have an exciting holiday to remember in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain. At the Calvert Trust it's what you can do that counts!"
