Balloon ReleaseThe Jennifer Trust invites everyone to help raise funds to support children and adults with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. A balloon release is an easily organised event which will help to raise awareness and much needed funds. It’s the perfect way to involve pupils, friends and family in a bid to improve the lives of those who are affected by SMA whilst having a lot of fun! A balloon release can be an impressive sight and is an event that people want to watch; It can be mutually beneficial in increasing publicity at school events and an excuse to set up stalls and make a day of it.
How does it work?
Pupils, staff and friends of the school sell Balloon Race Labels. These are stamped with the name and address of your school. The buyer will write his/her name in the appropriate place on the label. On the day of the event the labels are attached to helium filled balloons which are then released from the balloon net. Each balloon label has a request that the finder should post it back to the school - Prizes are given to those people whose balloon labels are returned from furthest away. Try selling the balloons at £1 each.
In organising a balloon release it is important to understand the potential impact on the environment and how to affectively reduce these possible implications. In keeping with the NABAS Code of conduct for balloon releases; The Jennifer trust will provide each school with the necessary number of biodegradable natural latex balloons. As a favour to us, we ask that each school provide the helium as well as first prize to be awarded to the winner. This cost will be deducted from the funds raised and the remainder will come to The Jennifer Trust. The approximate cost of helium is £60 for a large canister.
