Congratulations to Lucy Wright on persuading her local health authority to undertake training on SMA.
Late diagnosis, and the fact that many professionals will not have had any previous experience with SMA are factors that have affected the quality of care received by many families.
Lucy translated her frustration into action and as a result 74 staff in Leicestershire NHS Trust have received awareness training, and SMA awareness has been written into the training plan with more sessions scheduled for the future.
Lucy's persistence and correspondence with key people at the NHS Trust has also given further leads to follow up, to put pressure on other health care groups, as well PCTs in other areas, to follow suit. |
